Artist Statement

Mother Earth is my source for inspiration. My paintings give a visual voice to a multitude of issues that feed my creative intellect and celebrate the potent influences of the mountain environment that is my home. Walks in the mountains never fail to nurture my spirit and enrich my sensibilities. A preoccupation with nature in concert with human made shapes and forms; the passage of time; my place in life's convoluted processes and the idea of a color driven narrative offer sumptuous metaphors that relate directly to my art.

The intrigue for me as a painter comes with a variety of challenges enhanced particularly by the looming unknowns that are present in the process of creating each painting. I revel in a certain intimacy between color and nature, which becomes the dominating narrative of my work.

I am aware of the powerful energies within natural processes and continually seek to understand the elements of form, light and shadow that are inherently fundamental in nature as well as my work. My paintings are often meant to be ambiguous yet understood as silent tributes that focus on a deep respect for the environment.
